The bicycle retailer that occupied the premises was reputably the oldest bicycle shop in the country. The conversion had therefore to be sympathetic for the proud local community while establishing an efficiently planned and operated restaurant. The internal reorganisation of the four level site has provided a clever use of the limited space to create an intimate entrance bar that opens up to a warehouse style restaurant with retractable glazed roof and doors to a small courtyard dining garden.

Access to the first and second floors is via the original Georgian staircase leading to the private dining room, customer toilets and kitchens. The interior design acknowledges the previous retail use and allows the existing ground floor brick walls and concrete floor finishes to become the backdrop for slightly mid C20th styled furnishings that makes the site appear long established and well used. The Old Bicycle Shop opened to much local acclaim and has continued to become established as a well regarded and successful Cambridge restaurant.
